Welcome to the 2009 CRRA Conference & Tradeshow! The California Resource Recovery Association (CRRA) is an environmentally focused professional organization for people involved in resource conservation through waste prevention, reuse, recycling and composting activities. CRRA members use their collective knowledge and experience to create and help implement innovative solutions and programs to reduce material going to landfill. The Association works closely with the individuals and organizations that influence and shape conservation and waste prevention policy and programs. CRRA provides a variety of forums and venues that increase communication among government, industry and environmental organizations. Join CRRA in Rancho Mirage for its 33rd annual conference and tradeshow. This year’s event will be at the beautiful Rancho Las Palmas Resort and Spa, August 2 – 5, 2009. This year's theme, "Zero Waste: Vision to Reality", focuses on the importance for our industry and members to fully embrace the Zero Waste philosophy and make it a reality in their community. Invoking the desert mirage (an optical illusion reflecting reality), we distinguish Zero Waste planning and design (the Vision) moving toward comprehensive reuse, recycling and composting (the new Reality), as we address Climate Change issues. The Coachella Valley location is a unique blend of desert landscape, resort settings, and vibrant agricultural and renewable energy economies. The 2009 conference schedule is adapted to 100-degree days and warm nights, with early morning and evening events and mid-day siesta breaks. CRRA always offers inspiring speakers, timely and varied sessions, great networking opportunities; and 2009 will carry on the tradition. The CRRA annual conference is California's premier event for professionals engaged in the waste reduction, reuse, recycling and composting field. CRRA attendees come from local governments, state agencies, federal government, non-profits, consulting businesses, collection and hauling companies, and businesses that supply the industry with the tools and services that are needed to reduce waste and recycle more.. Conference attendees are engaged in developing and managing programs for reuse, paper and bottle and cans recycling, organics, construction & demolition recovery, electronics, household hazardous waste, and other environmental services. In addition, conference attendees are involved in the creation and formation of governmental policies and educational outreach campaigns that target consumers and companies to reduce waste and recycle more, reducing carbon footprints and making positive contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and saving resources. CRRA's annual conference is a fantastic opportunity to actively influence the future waste prevention, reuse, recycling and composting policies and markets in California; and to focus on new ideas and practices that will help create jobs, reduce waste, conserve and preserve natural resources, build a sustainable economy and protect the environment. Together we can prove that Zero Waste is not an illusion, but a visionary way to conserve precious and finite resources and make our resource conservation efforts stronger, more effective, sustainable and profitable. Educational sessions will begin on Sunday, August 3rd with workshops and certification classes. Sunday evening's Welcoming Reception will allow you some time to reconnect with colleagues and meet new ones. On Monday, August 4th we will start off with an Opening Plenary to advance the vision; sessions to make it real; and time to meet and catch up with your colleagues. The Exhibitor Reception at the end of the day on Monday gives you a sneak preview to the Exhibit Hall. On Tuesday, August 5th there will be more sessions and Exhibit Hall time with industry vendors who have valuable information and products to share, and educational and fun activities and meetings. Come and cheer on your colleagues at the Annual CRRA Awards Reception that will then be followed by Topic Dinners. The Evening will end with a one-of-a-kind show by the NCRA Players. We will close the conference on Wednesday, August 6th with more sessions, a closing plenary, tours, and a chance to take a certification class. CRRA is planning many special events, a golf tournament, networking opportunities and fun tours as well this year. Information on various family and fun outings highlighting the local scenic area will be listed on our website. CRRA has arranged reduced guest room rates three days pre and post conference, so plan to make this not only an educational event, but also a family event! As a resort hotel, Rancho Las Palmas offers many recreation opportunities, including Spashtopia - the on-site 2-acre water park. The River, directly across the street, is a dining and entertainment mecca. The Living Desert is a short drive away, as is Joshua Tree National Park where the Mojave and Colorado deserts merge. The Palm Springs Aerial Tram is a quick way to escape the desert heat, climbing over 8000 feet in eight minutes up the shear face of Mountain San Jacinto. We look forward to seeing you in Rancho Mirage in August!
